Now how should I start this BLOG? I know, I'll tell you that today is a mere 6 weeks away from STEELERS and FISH training camps. Hard to believe Sid hoisted the Cup over a month ago! Been a lousy summer so far - so let's screw up the mosquitos and go straight into winter once hockey gets started again!
Looking forward to working with my new color guy Luke Bernas who cut bait doing color commentary last season on the BIG FM Selkirk Fishermen broadcasts with Bill Christensen. Luke gets promoted due to the departure of Ray Neufeld from the broadcast booth. This season he'll be patrolling behind the bench with Don MacGillvary for the Winnipeg South Blues. With Keith's sweater swap to the Winnipeg Saints, Ray might have become the boss in Steeltown if he hadn't already committed to coaching with the Winnipeg South Blues. Sophmorerbench boss Ryan Smith - the Blues coach last season, slips nicely into Steeler Black and Red!
If you ask me today, I think Winkler may be the team to beat here in the Addison Division - not many players lost, good experienced goaltending, defense, a speedy offensive unit led by former Steeler Michael Wilgosh, and a real good guy behind their bench in Mark Thiessen make the Flyers the odds on favorite for 2009-10. Don't get me wrong, we'll beat them in the division final - sorry Mr. Belfour / / / / On the other side, how can you not think it'll be Portage yet again? OCN and Dauphin (who are hosts of the RBC in May) will give them a good run for top spot in the S'Wood division.
Musically: I'm absolutely loving the new Canadian group called METRIC --- 1st album this year has already yeilded 3 hits ("Help I'm Alive", "Gimme Sympathy", and "Dead Disco"). Listen to my show - you'll hear them fairly regularly.
Movies: Been forever since I've been to the theatre but I do wanna see "Bruno" and "The Proposal", maybe I'll wait 'til a Steeler road trip to see Bruno on the bus. Anyone see "...Pelham 123"? How is it? Love Denzel, but hate Travolta as a villian (just can't see it - he's too nice a guy) but plays it so well!
Summer Vacation: Yeah right, with this econmy? Maybe I'll just cut the grass more often!
